Analysis of Plating Thickness of Decorative Coatings

Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (ED-XRF) is widely used to monitor the concentrations of elemental content in plating bath solutions for electroplating. For this application the sample preparation is very easy. Just fill the liquid sample into a sample cup, then place the sample cup into the analyzer and press start.

The same instrument can also be used to analyze the thickness of decorative coatings of high fashion articles, fashion jewelry, jewelry and more. The non-destructiveness of the ED-XRF together with a small spot setup allows to analyze shaped products even at multiple points to test the homogeneity of the plating. The range of elements is wide and includes precious metals but also alloys like bronze.
