Multi-element Analysis of Seafood by ICP-OES with Twin Interface Plasma Observation

In the last few decades, food quality and safety have become a major topic of public interest. This has led to introduction of stringent legislation, setting maximum levels of contaminants in foodstuffs. In particular, heavy metals are strictly regulated, because their intake via food is associated with a number of serious health conditions.

In Europe, maximum levels of lead, cadmium, inorganic tin and total mercury in food are regulated by EU law, specifically by Commission Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 and No 629/2008. Driven by Food Safety Legislation, better analytical techniques and lower detection limits for the elements of interest are required.

This report demonstrates the capabilities of the SPECTROGREEN with twin interface plasma observation for the multi-element analysis of major and trace concentrations in seafood.
