Analysis of Lactose

Application Brief

Analysis of Lactose Matrix Samples Using ICP-OES

Lactose is a disaccharide composed of galactose and glucose subunits. Lactose is an ingredient in milk and is furthermore used as an additive for many applications, e.g. as a substrate for aromas and pharmaceutical products.

For the analysis of elemental impurities the SPECTROGREEN ICP-OES with Dual-Side-On plasma observation has the required analytical performance in terms of matrix compatibility and sensitivity. Thanks to the instrument’s capabilities, samples require dissolution in water only, without the need for digestion, which saves time and prevents contamination from reagent chemicals. Spike recovery measurements demonstrate that even at low concentration levels excellent accuracies can be achieved.
