The mineral calcium fluoride is not only found in toothpaste and various mouthwashes but is also an important raw material used in hydrofluoric acid production, as a flux in steel and cast iron production and for optical applications (glasses for lenses, prisms).
Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (ED-XRF) technology offers a simple and precise method to determine the elemental composition of calcium fluorides. This application report shows that the SPECTRO XEPOS, equipped with the optionally available detector with low-energy window detector, is well suited for the analysis of major elements including fluorine. During the same measurements also minor and trace element concentrations can be analyzed simultaneously.
